The purpose of the Dr. May Hope Wilkins Legacy Scholarship, Inc. is to continue the legacy of the late Dr. May Hope Wilkins. She was a graduate of Winston-Salem State University, Hampton University, and East Carolina University (all with a focus in education). Her contributions to education, started as an English Teacher at Plymouth High School, in Plymouth, NC. She continued to impact education for over 38 years, in various roles, throughout Eastern North Carolina. The focus of this charity is to help fund the educational endeavors of future educators. The scholarship fund has been established as a non-profit charity, in order to support the educational costs for college students attending Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and studying in the field of education. Scholarship funding will be established by public/community donations and ongoing fundraisers. The goal is to provide scholarships ranging from $500 to $15,000 yearly.
